With all the negative press against the prescription drug Yaz, it’s surprising anyone is still taking it. For Yaz and a similar precursor, Yasmine, the pharmaceutical company Bayer has received multiple warnings from the FDA. Early warnings for Yasmine were given when the FDA accused Bayer of having been aware of side effects and complications of the drug but not disclosing them to the public. Then Bayer was called out for its aggressive advertising campaign for Yaz, which implied that Yaz worked better than other birth control pills, when in fact, it has more health risks associated with it. In addition to the FDA warnings, Bayer has faced hundreds of cases from Yaz blood clot lawyers, representing clients who experienced health problems related to the active ingredient drospirenone. Yaz is still available in the United States, but the numbers of women using it today have fallen. Still, millions of women take Yaz around the globe.
